In the photo-negative world of indie rock morality, Christmas might be the most blasphemous word next to George Bush, combining as it does the taboos of family, Christianity, commerce, and happiness. Sufjan Stevens, then, is something like the happy elf from North Pole, unabashedly reveling in the glory of Christmas with such warmth it pretty much obliterates the word "irony" from the English language. And now, the boxset "Songs for Christmas", collecting five EPs of seasonal music recorded over the last five years which will basically clean out all my Christmas allowance, represents the songwriter's ultimate rejoicing to date, bring me back to the innocent careless days of childhood,oh how i love Christmas!
However,i must say i still too in love with his last album "Illinois",my top 3 albums of 2005 among Sigur Ros and Broken Social Scene, writing the story of the landscape by seizing all the weird, awkward bits of tough Midwest and the craziest name like "The Black Hawk War, Or, How To Demolish An Entire Civilization And Still Feel Good About Yourself In The Morning, Or, We Apologize For The Inconvenience But You're Going To Have To Leave Now, Or, 'I Have Fought The Big Knives And Will Continue To Fight..."
What kind of shit is that?
Seriously,i burn my brain while reading those lyrics, especially the 15 track.
"The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us!"
