T.E. Lawrence (1888-1935) ...大概是20世紀最迷人也最傑出的人物之一,
他是詩人,軍人,考古學者,戰略家,同時也是領導阿拉伯民族獨立的背後推手,
以一個英國外來者的身份征服了塔圖音民族的心,以少數的游擊部隊攻下土耳奇的堡壘,
橫越不可能穿過的Nefud沙漠.
在他的自傳中寫到:

All men dream: but nor equally, 
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses oftheir minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, 
for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible.

Nothing is written...對lawrence來說的確如此,而且也沒有任何人能拒絕他.

然而他對阿拉伯民族的愛卻成了他永恆的折磨,
夾在英國對阿拉伯利益上的野心興阿拉伯的獨立之間的lawrence,
必須不斷的編織謊言去欺騙他的阿拉伯朋友,
同時又為此而深感虧欠與不安...

這麼一個複雜的人物,其最鮮明的呈現是在1962年由David Lean執導,
Peter O'Toole,Omar Sharif主演的電影中所展開的16:9寬螢幕史詩...
這二人留下的風采和形象到現在還沒有人可以超越,此片在我心中也是永遠的第一...
